Bread box

The round, silver container holding extra communion hosts (beyond what is in the thumb ciborium) before they are placed on the altar during the Offertory.

The bread box sits on the credence table with the cruets and is presented to the celebrant or deacon at the Offertory, usually by the crucifer. If the deacon takes only some of the hosts, the remainder are placed in a glass bowl on the credence table. They are not left in the bread box.
