Advent wreath

The advent wreath is a wreath placed in the chancel during Advent.

It rests on a large brass stand and is placed in the chancel in front of the cathedra.

The wreath has four candles (three violet and one rose) that are lit in increasing numbers as Advent progresses from Sunday to Sunday.

Servers should light the candles before mass when lighting other candles.

At Christmas, the candles are changed to white (with a fifth added to the center) and the wreath becomes the Christmas wreath.
