THERESA

This is the page of Theresa C. Dietrich. (The picture to the left was taken in Cty. Wicklow, Ireland.)I'm one of the SI's grad students, but I'm also a teacher, so I guess you could call me a drifter? I'm clueless when it comes to new tests and Common Core standards, but I could hold my own in a conversation about scaffolding and differentiated instruction. I'm in the middle of our funky SI Venn diagram, if you will. I earned my bachelor's degree in elementary education from Indiana Wesleyan University, and I hold a current teaching license for grades K-12 in the state of Indiana. How weird!! I don't use it much.Instead, I came back to school for a master's in English at Purdue Calumet, because writing (I've learned rather recently) is irresistible to me, and doing it and teaching it is pretty fun. I always thought my role would always be "reader," yet I am now exploring what it means to be a content creator as well. This summer is my second semester. You'll recognize me by my pink hair, and you might've seen the ink on my shoulder and the glasses on my face. Here's a bit more about me: I live in Hammond, I teach at Ivy Tech in East Chicago, and I'm the grad assistant to Dr. Liz Bryant, the director of PNW's first year writing program. But you probably didn't know that I live in a menagerie. Sam and I have five animals: a pair of twin cats (Stubbs and Daisy), a leopard gecko (Aang), a bearded dragon (Padfoot), and a ball python (Salazar). The animals in our menagerie outnumber us by almost triple. I adore them and am happy to introduce you to any of them; although keep in mind, they are all introverts.I often write creative non-fiction, sometimes about people, sometimes about places I've visited. I've traveled a bit and I like it, but the place I'm most eager to find is a real home somewhere. This, mainly, is why I travel; and in some ways, this is also why I write.
