Activities:

Monday: A1

Activity

  • Journal #9: Write about a time when someone was emotional and the situation was solved by a rational approach. (10 minutes)
  • Sentence Study - watch the tutorial over the sentences that you were assigned for homework. I will walk you through the first two sentences - make corrections as you view the video. Edit the third sentence and be prepared to grade it at the beginning of next class. My lungs are feeling better, but my voice sounds a little breathy at times - sorry about that. (18 1/2 minutes). Play this on my laptop - I turned off the password protection and hooked up the sound.
  • Read "The Rhetoric of Revolution" in the Lit Book page 112-113
  • Break into partner groups: Research the American Rationalism Period. Create a shared Google Doc with your partner about the Rationalism Period - be sure to consider historical events that shaped it, the writing style, the religious philosophy of the period [Deism], and the importance of logic). Share the Doc with Mr. Langley as well.
  • Vocabulary Unit 2 Day 4

Assignment

Vocabulary Quiz next class. Sentence Study: edit the third sentence before next class. Read "Speech to the Second Virginia Convention" by Patrick Henry, pages 114-118 (be sure to read the Before You Read section). Reflection: Write a reflection blog explaining how Patrick Henry's speech exemplifies the Rationalism writing style. Use a literary criticism from Bloom's from Facts on File to support your ideas (may be regarding Rationalism or Deism - I didn't see a criticism on Henry's Speech). Be sure to use MLA parenthetical citations and bibliography citations for your support.
