Yearbook Semester Exam Project 2009 (2010 yearbook)

The assigned spread must be saved by page numbers followed by the job number. If saved with the proper name, pix folders will be created including the page number and job number in the name of the folder. If any of this is not completed, it needs to be corrected before the spread is given credit. No credit will be given until the previously mentioned requirements are met.

Credit for each yearbook spread will be scored in the following areas

1. Copy 20 points

2. Design 30 points

3. Photo placement 20 points

4. Captions and headlines 30 points

Copy - Well-written copy is in the circular writing style is expected. The name of the author of the copy is to be placed at the beginning of the copy. Copy must be written in the appropriate AWPC font for the 2010 yearbook. All copy blocks must be linked.

Design - An 8-column format with an eyeline is to be used. The dominant photos should be 2 to 2 1/2 times larger than the other photos. Follow the 4-column format for photo placement. All items (including text boxes from photos) are to be one pica apart. White space is very limited and should only be seen in the outside corners of the spread. The design is consistent with the theme of the section. If a deviation of the design format is used, it must be approved by Mr. Langley. Folios and folio copy must be written in the appropriate AWPC fonts for the 2010 yearbook.

Photo placement – With the exception of background images, all digital images are to be placed using image placer. All photos must be color appropriate to the page they are placed on (for example, color photos on a color spread). All placed images need to be located in the appropriate pages/pix folder.

Captions, By-lines and Headlines – Captions and cutlines must fill in the details of what is not obvious in the photo. Captions and cutlines may not talk to the reader, talk to the subject of the photo, or state the obvious, such as, " . . . smiles for a picture" or "poses for a quick photo." It is recommended that captions begin with a sub-head (mini-headline). Headlines need to introduce the copy in the same fashion as a newspaper or magazine article headline. The Headline should have a spin on the theme of the book. The captions and headlines must be written in the appropriate AWPC fonts for the 2010 yearbook.
