JW Crofts dropped out after the first lap because of cramps.
The course was three miles long and was run over twice. From the start on the football field the course leads south, paralleling Broadway for about 1/3rd mile. Here the runners pass under a railroad bridge, turn sharply to the right and ascend a long, steep hill of about a 14% grade across the golf links. After this point the course if fairly easy except for the last mile where the path is a very rough climb and zigzags up and over a (Cemetery) hill with a very steep down grade.
Previous course record 32:26.8 by Fred Faller, Boston in the AAU Championships in 1919. Previous best college time 32:55.8 by John Simmons.

previous course record 27:08.6 by HH Brown, 1919. Course about 75 yards shorter due to diagonaling up to the gymnasium starting the second lap. Cpt Kellogg was unable to run.
The course begins at the Lasell Gymnasium, leading up Main Street to the Greylock Hotel, then south to the Taconic Golf Club. The runners traverse the golf course and turn in past the east side of Weston Field. After one lap of the track the course is repeated as usual except the runners diagonal up to the gymnasium instead of going by way of Spring, Walden, and Hoxey Streets.
