This bicycle adventure is not for the faint of heart, but the long-distance biking part of it could be done exclusively by train with minimal riding to access San Clemente pier. We traveled on Metrolink Orange County line.
We started at the McDonald's on Central Ave in Glendale. Note the panniers and "dork flags" that have been added to facilitate multi-day bicycle trips along busy roads such as the CA-1 (Pacific Coast Highway).
We had a picnic lunch along the San Gabriel River Trail.
We had dinner in Newport Beach and watched fireworks from our balcony at Hotel Irvine.
Heading South we passed through Dana Point along the PCH.
Finally, we caught the train back to Glendale from San Clemente.
Routeslips are posted here for Glendale to Newport Beach and Newport Beach to Oceanside. Other lessons learned on this adventure are summarized here.
