This is a 50.43 mi Bike Ride starting at the Metrolink station in Glendale, CA (where I live). The route was mapped by fb.KayK.679 on 05/17/2012. The first 39 miles were completed in 4:17:53 H:MM:SS until the GPS watch's battery died. It took me 5 hours total to reach Claremont (where I work). I returned via train. If I were to do this route again, I would have started 2 hours earlier.
Highlights of this route:
#1 York Blvd: it's got a bike lane, there's a sweet climb through Eagle Rock, I saw lots of other cyclists.
#2 Arroyo Dr: light traffic, shady, scenic. I saw other cyclists here too. Very comforting.
#3 S. Orange Grove Blvd: the area we watched the Rose Bowl Parade, very nice landscaping.
#4 E. California Blvd through Pasadena: it was cool and fast and scenic.
#5 Monrovia Recreational Park / Historical Museum: they have a drinking fountain.
#6 Royal Oaks Dr: there is a recreational path which parallels this street. I kept to the street because the path was pretty crowded with people, strollers, dogs and the like. But it was nice to see other people out enjoying the day.
#7 San Gabriel River Bicycle Path: will definitely return to this. GORGEOUS!!! Met some other cyclists, who gave advice.
#8 Azusa Pacific University / Citrus College: it was cute to see all the students. One gave me directions.
#9 Foothill Blvd: damn it was hot and the climb was brutal. See elevation profile. That marker is where I was ready to quit.
#10 The 7-Eleven in San Dimas: cold water from the fountain gave me the strength to get south of the 210 back into familiar territory, after which I knew I would make it the rest of the way.
