Appointment of Stewart Regan as Chief Executive
At last, the SFA seems to have brought in someone with the right credentials and a business mentality. Whilst this is welcome we have to note that it has now been 3 months since Henry McLeish issued his Review Of Scottish Football: Part 1.
How long have we waited for these two vital events to transpire? Too long, that’s how long. Never-the-less we have to at least recognise that they vital first steps in the change process that we all hope will now result.
But when are we to expect Part 2? According to George Peat this will be at the end of the year. If the estimate on timescale for publication of Part 1 is anything to go by this means we can’t really expect it until sometime next year.
If anyone hasn’t read the report they we would suggest that they at least try to read some of it. Although, it has to be said that it doesn’t make for exciting reading. Such reports are difficult to write under the best of circumstances let alone the complex nature of Scottish football and this one is poorly written. It is large in size and although it starts of well, it deteriorates in quality as it progresses.
So why are we advocating that you read this report that we are so critical of? It is because that agree with it or not, Henry McLeish is entitled to a great deal of respect for taking up this poisoned chalice and because it is a pointer to aspects of change that we can all contribute to.
But we can’t wait forever. Scottish football can’t wait forever. Change has to start now. Not when Stewart Regan takes up his post or when Henry McLeish’s Report, Part 2, sees the light of day. The SFA have to realise that life on earth evolved faster than the pace of change within Scottish football and we all have to make them realise this by putting as much pressure on them as possible.
Sorry Mr Regan but you are going to have to deliver a commitment to comprehensive change that has real credibility and you are going to have to deliver it fast. We sincerely wish you the best of luck.
