Ok. So you've written to them and they haven't replied. So what's the point of trying to escalate things with this lot?, you may ask yourselves.
In the first place the person or organisation may be genuinely busy and a letter from you has been seen as low priority. That is no excuse however, if you have given them a reasonable time in which to respond.
Having to go back to them elevates you further up on the moral high ground as they have not treated you with mutual respect and furthermore you have the evidence. Keep it!! Keep it until you get a chance to use it, and when you do you'll be stating a fact, not hurling an insult. More self empowerment!
But wait! They've sent you an acknowledgment! Still not good enough. You've asked a question and deserve an answer not just confirmation that your letter has arrived. If this acknowledgement states something like "so and so will respond if he or she feels it appropriate" then this is unacceptable. It is an open ended fob off with no commitment that you will ever get an answer.
Reply or not, don't let them off with it. You are now in charge. Send them a polite reminder and send a reminder to every member of the management team/directors or whatever. All these directors will have secretaries, PA's etc. If other individuals out there are doing what you are doing, then all the more letters are being seen by more people in the organisation. More empowerment!
You already have the letter, it's just a case of changing the name, their job title and the first few lines of text, and you can easily send a few separately addressed envelopes inside one large envelope.
Eventually somebody within that organisation will start to speak about the build up of letters, tongues will start to wag and their own Grape Vine starts to work in your favour. Even more empowerment.
Situations like this cannot go unaddressed and work their way onto managerial agendas. Managers/directors might not find favor with your ideas but of this you can be certain - they won't be happy and they won't be 100% in agreement. It might be a tiny split but on the other hand you might just have started an argument or two.
You still might not get your answer but either way you win:
no reply - higher moral standpoint
they dismiss your viewpoint - you know where you stand and what you are up against
they agree - you know the problem lies elsewhere, focus on that
Whatever the situation you are armed with more facts that you can put to use, that cannot be denied and so your empowerment and that of others continues to get stronger.
Time to turn up the heat. Time to turn your attention to others.
