If you share the view that action is necessary, it is important to realise that individuals must act on their own wherever possible, in order to convince others that support for their aims is widespread.
Acting as a group counts as only one action and is seen by others as such. Even a petition carrying a hundreds or even thousands of signatures, still only counts as one. For more on this see Letter Writing Reasons Why.
Pressure groups are also effective to pool expertise and share information provided all members of the pressure group act as individuals when the pressure group agrees on what action they will take.
All actions must:
have properly thought through Action Plans
be respectful to the person/organisation you are trying to make your point to
be within the law
state clearly what you want the person/organisation to do
give a reasonable timescale for them to make a statement confirming their position
state clearly what the consequences will be if the person/organisation fails to deliver
Most importantly, consequences must be something within your power, which you are legally permitted and prepared to do, and which the person/organisation clearly feels will have an undesirable effect.
Remember! - you are trying to influence decisions.
If you take action there is a chance that it might have little or no effect - but if you do nothing then NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.
When the number of individuals who take action starts to increase, then all of these little effects start to add up. Don't give in to apathy!
