Although the BBC must adhere to rules of impartiality, this does not absolve them of a responsibility to ensure that their coverage does not harm Scottish football. They can:
Adopt an overall presentation style that seeks to inform, explain and enhance the listeners understanding of a much wider range of topics relating to Scottish football
Minimise the negative effect that their reporting of the bad aspects of the game has, by sticking to the facts of what happened and leaving out speculative opinion
Reduce the mundane studio chat presentation style between presenters and/or pundits and replace it with featured articles
Provide prospective listeners and viewers with an overview of programme content so that people can decide and plan in advance what they wish to listen to or watch
Provide more and coverage of interviews on topics of interest with representatives of the SFA, SPL and SFL but a less confrontational style and environment promoting a positive view
Similarly, provide more coverage of interviews with Club Chairmen and others actively involved in the game
Cut down on the number of former players and managers giving so called Expert Opinion
More coverage of lower divisions
Maximise coverage by reducing repetition and avoiding clashes of presentation between TV and Radio
Strive to emulate the Bill McLaren standard of match commentating
Even out the disproportional TV coverage between Scottish and English football
Seek out new stories and don’t just report on what has happened or what conveniently lands on their desk
