On Thursday, the state tennis tournament kicked off under miserable conditions. After a long day of waiting, the weather cleared just enough for our doubles teams to finish their opening round and our singles players to complete the first two rounds of play. Despite challenging draws that pitted our singles qualifiers (juniors Megan Elliott & Alina Zabolotico) against highly seeded opponents, the girls bounced back to take their first round in the consolation draw before the backdraw was eliminated due to weather-related scheduling difficulty. In doubles, both teams (Marcilyn Rowan/Lauren Steinkamp & Kassy Bernardo/Autumn Hackett) played outstanding tennis to win their opening rounds. Both teams went on to fall to top-16 seeds in tough matches. The Jacobs girls finished 34th in state as a team.
