Another Soggy State Trip

Despite the delays caused by intermittent rain throughout much of Thursday and Friday's play, the Jacobs girls played focused and determined tennis. On Thursday, Ashley won her opening match before falling in a competitive contest with a top-32 seed from Glenbrook North. Rebounding from the loss, Ash rolled past her opponent from Rockton Hononegah. In doubles, Jen and Miranda drew Marian Catholic in the first round. after falling behind a set, the pair roared back to take the second set. Playing great tennis from all parts of the court, they led in the third set before dropping a few no-ad deuce games and the third set. In their final match, Loyola Academy's lobs proved too hard to handle, eliminating Jen and Miranda from the tournament. At Buffalo Grove High School, Megan and Alina had a great start to their final tournament trip. After knocking off Homewood Flossmoor in straight sets, the tandem pushed top-32 seeded Edwardsville to the limit in a 5-7, 6-7 loss. In the consolation draw, Meg and Z notched a hard-earned three-set win over a big-hitting Lockport team. On Friday, wet court conditions delayed the start of play considerably but couldn't keep Ashley, Meg and Alina from playing their hardest. Our doubles team's tournament run ended in a tight straight set loss while Ashley bowed out of the singles draw after a back and forth three-set battle. The girls all conducted themselves admirably, played hard, and represented Jacobs HS with great character. I couldn't be more proud of our players!
