To cap off a successful week of conference competition (7-0 Hampshire, 6-1 McHenry, 6-1 Crystal Lake South), the team set out on the St. Louis trip. The six hour bus ride and continental breakfast (complete with mounds of bacon) weren't enough to slow down the Golden Eagles. In the opening round, Jacobs played Belleville West at Belleville West a match decided by a clutch, come from behind three-set victory by the freshman pair of Jacob Moser and Matthew Kastritis a loss would have meant no better than a 9th place finish for the Eagles. In the round of 8, Jacobs traveled to Belleville Althoff Catholic to take on Althoff on their home courts, where another key performance was turned in by Kyle Powell and Will Liby at second doubles to secure another 3-2 team win and move Jacobs to the semi-finals. In the semis, Jacobs once again found itself knotted at two apiece before being bailed out once again by the freshman third doubles pair who fought for a decision and a place in the championship match. In the finals, Jacobs faced off against Belleville East on their home courts. In the fourth match of the day, Belleville East (and possibly those heaps of breakfast bacon...) proved too much for the visiting Golden Eagles, how competed well, but ultimately fell to one of the state's best by a score of 1-4.

Highlights, aside from the dramatic, timely, match-clinching wins by second and third doubles, include Kendrick Chong's perfect day at second singles, where he dropped only one game on the day and KP's course record on Dairy Queen's "Play Place," outpacing his doubles partner by several seconds with an innovative backwards-slide maneuver.

Lowlights include KP's navigation skills and the activity bus' song selection. ...Let's just say that the a cappella version of "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman" as performed by the team, was in heavy rotation...
