The Jacobs - Prairie Ridge tennis rivalry has been a major one through the years. On Tuesday, the two conference powers met in a much-anticipated clash of the Fox . and Valley division leaders. Jacobs recorded a singles sweep while Prairie Ridge came away with the top two doubles positions. With five matches down, all attention went immediately to the third and fourth doubles positions on which the final outcome hinged. As both matches went to a third set, the anxiety surrounding the PR courts clearly mounted. The fourth doubles team of Kori Kent and Caroline Bayer came through under pressure, racing to a 4-1 lead before closing out the match and clinching the team victory. Though the dual was decided, sophomores Alexa Azcui and Katie Toomire fought on in a key match with major seeding implications. Despite claiming an early lead in the third set, the underclassmen ultimately fell to their Wolves opponents. The duo may not have earned the result they wanted on paper, but their competitive spirit and tremendous sportsmanship hinted at the very bright future the girls have ahead of them.
