Page Elements

(decorating blog)

The page elements are all those elements that 'surround' posts. Those things that readers will see as soon as they enter on our blog. These elements range from the navigation bar to polls, include links to other blogs or websites, change the blog archive, the header, links, subscription, etc. etc.

To add, modify, delete or change a page element site, we have to go to 'Page Elements' in the tab for' Design':

Now, let's work with some page elements. The way of working with these elements is always the same: edit, modify, save the "action" and check. First, we have to click on 'Edit' from the element you want to modify, then a pop-up window appears with the characteristics of that element and that we can modify. Once we have the element to our liking, click on 'Save' and we have already made the changes we desire. Let's see some examples, first with the default elements shown by blogger, and then, we will manage and add new elements.

• The first element that we are going to change is the navigation bar ("Navbar"):

To change the color of the navigation, we have to click on 'Edit' in the Navbar.

The current color of the navigation bar is blue. If we choose the silver and save changes, we go back to the 'Design' tab. There is a link that offers to check if the changes are made to our liking. It is advaisable to check that everything is as we want. In this case, we must check that the Navbar changed from blue to silver. For that, we have to click on 'View blog' (in a yellow box) or on the 'View blog' tag placed to the right of the tabs.

As well, you can right-click on the link and, then, choose 'Open in a new window’. Doing this, you have the schedule on our blog in a window and, in another window, how the blog is being viewed in real time. Thus, we use a window for changing the blog, and in the other one we just have to update (by pressing F5 or Ctrl + F5) to see if changes have been made effective.

Now, the Navbar is silver.

Take a look at the upper right of the screen. It appears the user (facendo.blogs@gmail.com) and the proper links when we access the blog as authors (New Post, Custom and Exit.

• The next element that we are going to change is the header. To change it, we have only to follow the known steps: edit, modify, save and check.

To edit the header, you must click on 'Edit' inside the header. Once done, we can change the title of the blog, its description may be added or removed and we can include or remove the background image of the header:

Whenever you configure anything, you can change anything you want and as often as you want. If, finally, we discard all these changes, we only have to click on 'Cancel' or close this window. If, on the other hand, we want to save the changes, just click on the 'Save' button.

• The next element we are going to change is the blog archive. To change it, we only have to follow the known steps: edit, modify, save and check.

In the blog archive (which will show how many posts are created by month, week or day) helps the fact that, at the bottom of the window, there is a box with the preview. That view varies depending on the options we choose for our archive:

• The element that we are going to change contains personal data. To change it, we have only to follow the known steps: edit, modify, save and check.

Now ,let's include in our blog an element that does not appear by default. For that, you have to click on 'Add a page element', choose which item or gadget you want to add, design that element to our way and save the changes.

Look at below each element we can choose, it appears a brief description of the correspondent element. This occurs because it may happen that we don't know very clearly the way in which the element works. Moreover, on the right of each gadget it is displayed if it is experimental or if it has been already added. The new gadgets are announced with the text "(New)" in red, close to the name of each page element .

We can add several elements of the same type, ie, multiple images, several slide-shows, etc. except for the header, the archive and the profile file. It may happen that we want to move any of the elements we have in the blog. To do this, click on the item you want to move and drag it to where we want to put it now.

Let's do some tests.

• If we would like to add a poll, we would have to click on "Survey" on the "Add a gadget" web page, and then write what is the question that we want to make, write any possible answer to that question, given the option to the readers to choose multiple answers, and decide when it is possible to intervene in this survey:

• If we would like to add a text, we would have to click on "Text" on the "Add a Gadget" web page and, then, we would have to put (or not) a title and write the text we want to add; as well as the text style (we can even include a link in this text):

• If you would like to add a link list, the item we have to add is 'Link List'. In this element, we can choose the title (or if you don't want it), we can decide how many links we want to display and if such links will be ordered alphabetically. The next thing we need to do is write the URL of the link, ie the web apge where we want to display once anyone click on the text that works as link. The URL will be, for example: www.facendoblogs.blogspot.com . Then, you must fill in the website name whose direction you have just written in the previous step. Generally, you will usually put a name that defines clearly where this link will drive you. If someone read in your blog "Blog to learn how to do blogs", that person will have a good idea of what will see on the window if s/he click on this link. However, if someone reads www.recopilaciondeinformacionparacrearblogscoblogger.blogspot.com it is quite likely that this person will not separate the words that form the URL and, therefore, they don't know what will appear if they click on that link. Once done, you must click on the button 'Add Link' and, at the bottom of the window, the name of the website just added will appear. We can add as many links as we want, we can edit (and change the URL or the name), we can remove them and even display them in the order we want by using simply the arrows on the left of the names of the links added :

• If the set of links we show is made up of links to blogs, Blogger offers us a new gadget: the blog list. To add it, we must go to 'Page Elements', which is on ' Design ' tab, then click on 'Add a gadget ' and then click on 'blog list':

Thus, we can handle the title of this gadget, what will appear, what won't be shown and how it will be ordered. We also have a small description of what a blog list is and the link we need to add the blogs on our list:

After writing the URL of the blog you want, that's all:

We can keep on adding all those gadgets we want to our blog. The offer is huge, and we only have to browse through 'The Basics','Featured','Most Popular', 'Newest' and the various categories of gadgets we can choose the preferred gadget.

Once done, the gadgets will be displayed in a certain way. That way is shown on the outline Page Elements:

And the blog will be shown like this:

If you want to change the structure of the page elements, we only have to click on the element you want to move and drag it to its new location. If, for example, we want that the list of blogs appears above the bar videos, you just have to do that in the diagram and click on the 'Save' button:

And the change done will be effective. To check it, we just have to click on 'View blog' or right-click on 'View Blog' and choose 'Open' or 'Open in new window':
