Electronic Resources Selection

ABOUT THIS PROCESS

Software and educational web sites are continuously reviewed for instructional use in the District. Due to limited resources and time, it is imperative that investments be made in software, equipment, and web-based resources that are directly linked to the District’s Curriculum and the EC Way and are included in the District’s standardized list of electronic resources.

SELECTION OF ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

When selecting electronic resources, if a software or educational web site is listed on the approved listing, the Electronic Resources Application is not required. All other software and education websites, including those that may be grant funded, must follow the approval process outlined below.

REVIEW PROCESS

In the steps outlined below, the “proposer” refers to any group or individual seeking to bring an electronic resource, either software or educational web site, into the district. The term “proposer” may refer to a campus leadership team, district department, or other.

1. Before investing in the electronic resource under consideration, the “Proposer” will notify the Curriculum Director or designee.

2. The “Proposer” will identify the need that is met by a particular electronic resource to the Curriculum Director or designee.

3. The Curriculum Department director or designee will establish a review session of the proposed electronic resource. The review session will include the “Proposer”, a representative from the Curriculum Department, a representative from the Instructional Technology team, and any other applicable representative (i.e., such as a campus principal).

The committee decides the extent to which the electronic resource meets the following criteria:

a. The electronic resource is an educationally valuable resource that is worthy of being integrated into the District’s scope and sequence in the applicable content area. The electronic resource supports and is consistent with the educational goals and objectives of the District and campus improvement plans.

b. The electronic resource meets high standards in presentation, format, readability, content accuracy, artistic or literary quality, and educational significance.

c. The electronic resource is appropriate for the subject and for the age, ability level, learning styles, and social and emotional development of the students for whom they are selected.

d. The electronic resource is technologically compatible with the District’s infrastructure.

e. The electronic resource should be utilized district-wide and funding is available to all campuses/department as appropriate.

4. The recommendation of the review session committee will be submitted to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum. If the recommendation is not approved, the process ends at this point. If approved, the following actions will result:

a. acquisition of the electronic resource for District use;

b. integration of the electronic resource into the District’s appropriate scope and sequence document; and

c. support from the technology department for electronic software usage.
