Note: Not sure of the intent of the Principals Leadership Seminar, below are two approaches. The first approaches this with an education technology focus and is based on proposals that were published in the National Education Technology Plan in previous administrations.
Approach #1 - Technology Assessment Leadership Institute (TALI)
The goal is to better prepare principals for using technology in schools. Principals, as well as their site-based teams, have articulated a clear need for guidance in terms of using technology to enhance both instructional and administrative processes. Campus principals and their teams will recognize that technology can be implemented at various levels, allowing them to implement technology into their Campus Improvement Plans. In addition to seeing more technology being used at the appropriate LOTI level for a campus, increased professional learning opportunities will become available. These opportunities enable teachers to achieve the next level of technology implementation as appropriate to their needs. Based on their LOTI level, instructional staff can seek out professional learning according to the Technology Competency Certification Plan (TCCP). Each staff member can access his or her LOTI assessment through the district assessment.
Approach #2 - Technology-Enhanced Leadership Ecology (TELE)
Technology-Enhanced Leadership Ecology (TELE) focuses on core leadership skills principals need to develop, while at the same time blending in critical technology skills and strategies that take advantage of contemporary technologies. The focus is on leadership, not technology, yet the realization is that you can't achieve core leadership skills without technology. This shift represents the fundamental impact technology has had on how we approach teaching, learning and leading in and out of school settings; essentially, the learning ecology has changed.
Critical leadership skills a principal must demonstrate to effectively lead a school in improving the learning ecology are as follows:
