Some other windmills of Rhodes
Lindos, Katavia & Mythica Windmiils
In May 2022, Kasia & Bartek Jarocki contacted me by email whilst on holiday in Rhodes. Having found a ruined windmill, they had found this website on the internet and my research on the windmills of Rhodes.
They very kindly sent me the photographs below and, with their permission, I reproduce these showing the windmills located near Lindos and Katavia. (<see map)
Sadly, both mills are in an advanced stage of decay but at least we have recorded them visually before they decay completely.
Lindos Windmill : This windmill is located north of the well known town of Lindos on the east coast of the island. It sits on a raised circular stone plinth with one doorway with lower entry access. There is now no cap / roof. The internal spiral stairs against the wall still exists. There appears to have been a perimeter deck at kerb level (as Vation mill). The windshaft, main wheel and wallower gear still exist but in a very poor state. Location : 36.100968N 28.094011
Katavia Windmill :
Internally, the mill is in very poor shape. The windshaft exists but no main wheel although the wallower is still in place. The millstones have metal perimeter bands but the supporting structures appears to be in a dangerous state. There appears to have been a perimeter deck at kerb level (as Vation mill) and the peg / hole winding arrangement can be shown the photo immediately above.
Mythica Tower Mill
Lalysos, Protogeni, Rhodes
In the same month (May 2022), I was emailed by Chris Christodoulou, the owner of the above tower mill villa asking if I had any information on this former windmill. Although, I could not assist him, he gave his permission to add his mill to this website.
It looks like a really well executed conversion that is built around the original tower at ground level but retains many of the internal workings giving a really atmospheric feel.
