2nd Edition OS map 1901 - has a windmill symbol almost exactly on

the Poole Municipal boundary. Given the siting on the edge of Turling Moor,

it was probably a windpump used for drainage

Notes and comments

There is a windmill marked[1] on the 2nd edition 6" OS map of 1901 almost exactly on the Poole Municipal boundary at the edge of Turlin(g) Moor right on the north-east shore of Lytchett Bay. It does not appear on the last edition of the 1" OS map (1960). The Moor is named Turlin on this map and area appears unchanged. What is it like now ? Quite possibly, it was a windpump for land drainage

TO DO : Check TA map & site itself

[1] The writer (RC) found this on the OS map ! It does not seem to be listed on Bones SDNQ list.
