RYA First Aid Course

RYA First Aid

This course is requirement for: RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates of Competence. This course is an approved MCA Boatmaster Licence ancillary course, qualifying the holder for all water categories – A, B, C and D.

*Our one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages.

In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This one-day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers.

It fulfils the requirements for:

Professional skippers of small craft working within 60 miles of a safe haven, including Boatmasters;

The Senior First Aid certificate needed by offshore racers subject to ISAF's regulations on first aid training (OSR 4.08.4).

OPTIONAL ADDITION: Category C Drugs Endorsement

CAT C DRUGS:

We usually add the Category C drug endorsement but please check we are offering it on the course you are attending as some do not offer it. It requires some additional work at the end of the course and costs an additional £15.

Instructors teaching first aid to Yachtmaster® instructors and cruising instructors, and others who go to sea on ‘coded vessels’, should be including information on the category C first aid kit. The additional teaching for these candidates should include the use of the drugs and an opportunity to practise with a pocket mask. Full details of the contents of the kit will be found on the outside of the packet! Alternatively, information on all of the kits - A, B and C - is available in MSN 1768 (M+F) issued in August 2003. This can be viewed on the MCA websitewww.mcga.gov.uk.
