Introduction
I was lucky to receive a copy of a document prepared by the late William D Blackie: "Line of Ancestry of John Hogg" dated; June 1987. In that document it says that the information for the descendants of James Hall and Catherine Campbell was "passed on from the memory of Isabella (Ella) Moncrieff-nee Hall to Margaret Milligan." The document goes on to list James Hall born circa 1830 married Catherine Campbell cira 1850 and they had the following children: "John, William, Catherine, Margaret, James, and Jeannie.JH-Page 8 In October 2015 I was contacted by a DNA match that possibly connected on the Hall Branch so started to explore it a little bit deeper; on this page you will find more information on that Branch starting with my Great Great Great Grandmother Catherine Hall.

Private John Hogg (30885) served in World War I in the King's Own Scottish Borders 1st battalion. John wrote a will on October 2, 1917: "In the event of my death I give the whole of my property and effects to my mother, Mrs Hall Hogg 27 James Place Leith Scotland"021; he was killed in action two days later on October 4, 1917 in France.020,021,028 He is honoured at the Tyne Cot Memorial in West Flanders, Belgium.020,022
