Burdek/Burdyniuk Branch - БУРДИНЮК

Introduction

My Great Grandfather was Peter Burdek he died before I was born but I do have many memories of my Great Grandmother.  Thanks to the hard work of my Aunt Donna I now know a bit more about the Burdek family's roots in the Ukraine.  Note we have seen both these spellings: Бурдиюк and Бурденюк of the name in Ukrainian which translates to Burdyniuk in English; my Great Grandfather's name got changed to Burdek when he came to Canada.

Naming Customs

In the Ukraine it "is obligatory for people to have three names: a given name, a patronymic, and a family name (surname)"WP1   "A suffix (meaning either "son of" or "daughter of") is added to the father's given name"WP1 therefore you will see that Peter's patronymic is Ivanovich meaning son of Ivan.
