Gretsch Controfuzz

For now, the schematic can be taken from the bottom of the Expandafuzz schematic. The smaller Controfuzz is a single 9V battery effect, while the larger Expandafuzz is a dual 9V effect with a bipolar +/-9V arrangement.

Both share the same odd Controfuzz, which is a contender for being one of the earliest op amp into passive diode clipper circuits. Other contenders are the MXR Distortion + and the Dan Armstrong Blue Clipper. I have no date yet for the Controfuzz, but the Expandafuzz could be as early as 1973.

The 14 pin single op amps are 748 types. Modern 748s are strictly 8 pin, so you'll have to work that one out when you get a failed op amp.

Great quote from Mark Hammer:

"Well, the Controfuzz is a quirky, but interesting, beast. While it provides sizzling fuzz, and a fuzz/dry blend, it does so in a manner that creates the illusion of a sustained note getting fuzzier towards the end. Too often overlooked, well worth building, and a fairly simple circuit on its own."
