My modular guitar effects system was the precursor to starting the modular synthesizer project. When I started this, I was frequently trying out things on the breadboard. After trying something out, the breadboard usually got cleared out for the next thing. Soon I was wishing I had "saved" some of those breadboard circuits, especially when I was repeating something, like say the same tone circuit again. But how to "save" a breadboard circuit without buying a bunch of breadboards? Modules! The black modules are all blank rack panels I cut up with a hacksaw, and then attached pots and pad per hole boards with guitar effects on them. Some have complete circuits, and others have only bits and pieces. For instance, I have the Univox Superfuzz broken out across 3 modules (preamp, distortion circuit, filter circuit). I have just a Big Muff filter (passive part and make up gain amp) in case I want to try that out with something.
Once the modular synth got underway, this project fell by the wayside, but I do intend on reviving it again one day. I still break it out and use it quite often for fun. The PWM Fuzz is one of my favorite guitar effects.
