Published in "Electronic Projects for Musicians," the Tube Sound Fuzz may have established the CMOS distortion genre with its implementation of the CD4049 Hex Inverter IC in a guitar distortion effect.
I have seen many DIY and boutique pedals that turned out to be either straight copies of the Tube Sound Fuzz or a clear derivative of Anderton's work.
In my drawing above, I have just slightly stayed from the original schematic. Anderton suggests a SPDT for the "Lead/Rhythm" switch. I have shown a simpler SPST arrangement that should work about the same in practice.
