Learning disorders or disabilities are mostly neurological. People have problems processing information, and this influences a person’s learning ability. Learning disorders also affect more advanced skills such as organization, abstract reasoning, scheduling, and long- or short-term memory and attention. Below are some learning disorders and their symptoms.

Dyslexia

People think dyslexia is an eye problem when in fact it is more a neurological issue that affects reading and processing abilities. Depending on the severity of the disorder, it can have an impact on a broad spectrum, including reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, writing, decoding, recall, and at times, even speech.

Language Processing Disorder

This is a specific type of Auditory Processing Disorder or APD wherein the person has a hard time giving meaning to groups of sounds that make up words, sentences, or even stories. APD affects the interpretation of all sounds, but the Language Processing Disorder, or LPD, only affects the processing of language, whether expressive or receptive.

Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities

Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities or NVLDs usually refer to the significant difference between a person’s higher verbal skills and his weaker motor or visual-spatial or social skills.A person with NVLD finds it very difficult to give meaning to non-verbal cues such as facial expressions and body language. He may also suffer from poor coordination.
