Disorders

Many disorders that are diagnosed to be psychophysiological in nature always have the element of emotion affecting them. Negative emotions such as fear and anxiety, or even stress have been found to affect people, causing illnesses such as migraines, heart disease, and ulcers.

Origin

Before huge advancements in medicine were made, people from many cultures and races believed that the mind and body were not connected. However today, through much research, the connection between the mind and body has never been stronger. Although some methods of healing through the mind are frowned upon by more traditional practitioners of medicine, methods such as meditation and yoga are now considered helpful.

Benefits

Over the past century, the study of the effects of emotions on the central nervous system has yielded several benefits. Today, physicians can identify factors that cause a patient’s illnesses, by asking about his emotional state. Knowing how a patient feels can lead to more information on his sleep rhythms, digestive functions, state of his immune system, brain health, and heart rate. Machines have also been invented to measure all these, machines such as EEGs, MRIs, and CAT scans.
