Rent

Everyone works in the classroom because all students have to pay rent to sit at their desks

The classroom is set up into 5 to 6 islands of tables with the students facing one another. Each Island is given a unique name, usually based on themes (names of department stores like Macy's or parts of Oakland like the Fruitvale) chosen by the students.

You may have noticed by now the rent is more expensive then the pay. If students can't afford their rent every month they are evicted from their seats and they have to sit on the floor. How can students earn enough money to afford the monthly rent? The answer lies in a system of incentive payments we call bonus money!

Seat Ownership. It is possible to buy your seat and call it a condominium. To buy your seat the cost is 3 times the monthly rent amount. For example, if the rent is $800 per month, a student may buy the seat for $2,400. From that time on, students no longer have to pay rent every month.

Students also have the option to buy another persons rented seat and become a landlord. In this classroom we have rent control. That means you can only raise the rent one time up to 10% after you have owned the seat 3 months.
