Quizzes

Quizzes are given almost every day. Quizzes count for 10% of your grade. As soon as students enter the room they are expected to go quietly to their seat and begin the quiz. There are only two questions on the quiz. The first question is about homework done the previous day. The second question spirals around math concepts learned in previous grades or previous sections of this math course. The quiz should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. I review the answers (although as soon as a student submits their quiz they will immediately know itheir results. If problem are missed you are given hints how to check your problem) with the whole class and post the grades. Because quizzes are given so frequently I will be able to quickly tell how students are doing on homework. If a student fails two consecutive quizzes they will come up with a plan to improve their score. I usually wait until after their first test and see how they react before I call the student in to talk about their learning. If the student does not come up with a plan to improve their learning I will ask for one. If the student does not give me a plan and fails two more consecutive quizes I will make arrangements with them and their parents to join the intensive Care Unit.

The second reason quizzes are given so frequently is because studies have proven that practice tests improve student scores. Students should do practice tests on their own to help them study. Most students don't do practice tests on their own so I am including practice tests as a routine that occurs almost every day.
