Introduction

Quiz.

As students enter the room they go to assigned seats and get out pencil and paper, When the bell rings to start class students are quiet

Students entering Room 11 are quiet and working on the quiz (5 minutes) or test as soon as they enter the door.

If there is no quiz or test they can talk but as soon as the bell rings to start class students are quiet

A quiz is given almost every day. One problem is the math concept we covered in the prior class. The other problem is a math concept or skill that was learned previously. These types of problems could be arithmetic, or problems from previous grades. There are videos and practice problems in the quiz if you don’t understand the problems

Homework

Homework is checked as soon as you enter the room

All homework is available online with hints to solve the problem or a book. I do not grade homework but I check to see that it is completed. Students are encouraged to work in study groups and/or stay after school with me.to make certain homework is mastered

Lesson

Lesson for the day prominently displayed with the following:

  • Chapter and section

  • Learning Objective

  • Why we learn it

  • Homework/Assignments

The whole classroom reads the lesson objectives and why we are doing the lesson. I state the homework assigned and we start the lesson.

Lesson plans almost always follow an I Do, We Do, You Do and Wrap-up structure but the overall philosophy follows the Hunter model. The Hunter Model is the following seven-step model developed by Madelyn Hunter:

    1. Objective/Purpose. “The learner will do what + with what + how well."

    2. Anticipatory Set. Method to build student engagement.

    3. Direct Instruction. I will demonstrate what is being learned.

    4. Check For Understanding. Make certain students understand what is being taught otherwise stop and review.

    5. Guided Practice. Teams and I guide students that are struggling.

    6. Independent Practice Students work on their own.

    7. Closure Conclude the lesson

Team Roles:

Bathroom

Use the bathroom pass and sign-out sheet after the first 10 minutes or before the last 10 minutes of class.

Students are young adults and don't need my permission to go to the bathroom. Student go to the bathroom on their time. If anyone is talking to the whole class students stay in their seat and listen. Students do no go to the bathroom until they clearly understand the problem they are working on.

Ideally students go to the bathroom after they know how to solve the problem

Water and Food

Dealt with in the same way as the bathroom except students just drink water or eat food (During Covid students need to go outside the room)

End of Lesson

Summarize and reflect on the concepts learned

Most lessons take most of the class time. If there is class time left students work on homework, pretest, or test questions they don't understand.
