This photo was shot some minutes after the aggregation cerimonial as a professor, hold at F.C.S.H. / UNL, the 5th June 2002 . Here you can see my mother Maria Manuela Cardoso Correia, teacher, and my sister, Lúcia Maria Pires Correia, actress at the Portuguese National Theatre and holding a Master Degree on Applied Psychology on Education.

If the genetic heritage has an influence on an individual, then the fact of having mother and grandmother as teachers contributed to my choice of profession. From an early age this heritage defined a demand for high quality and professionalism.

The teaching path has grown from a curiosity towards experience, from primary school to university. The interest for the learning mechanisms of reading was only fulfilled with the release of a book Come read with me, written with two other specialised teachers on teaching the first steps of reading. Later on, 2009, I researched again on the mechanisms of reading and achieved one of my best projects: Caminho da Leitura.

The intervention in the children-youth literature field occurred in partnership with classes in secondary education and later on in the Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa (University of Education of Lisbon). The cultural endeavours throughout school and libraries across the country were unforgettable experiences and, further on, the TV programs (Youth Books, Literature Club Series, Children and Books Series) amplified this effort into a national dimension.

The invitation to teach and research in the University came after this experience. C.I.T.I, and the research on interactive systems of communication motivates the development of the multimedia applications and sediments the knowledge in two Departments: Sciences of Communication and Sciences of Education.

And if, nowadays, the skills of theaching and researching are different, one considers that the principles of high quality and professionalism printed in the genetic heritage remain exactly as I received them from my mother and grandmother.
