Shalom Beit Chaverim members,

Looking forward to seeing you this evening at Kabbalat Shabbat. This is our last Service of the year! The weather should be better by this evening. We will light a candle in honor of Israel's Memorial Day for Fallen Soldiers and then celebrate Israel's Independence day!

The Torah portion for this week is a double one. We go from mourning the death of Aaron's two sons, to laws of purity, to laws of sacrifices, to laws of sexuality, to more laws!! The second portion includes the Holiness code. Lots to discuss and ponder!

Acharei Mot:

God instructs Aaron to purify the altar, the priests, and the people. To purify the people two goats are chosen: one as a sacrifice, the other as a scapegoat, to be sent off bearing Israel's sins. This ceremony of the Day of Atonement is to be 'an eternal statute' on the tenth day of the seventh month. Other statures, concerning animal slaughter and prohibited sexual relations, follow. (Sim Shalom Siddur)
