Shalom Beit Chaverim members, (please read thru)

Post date: Jun 17, 2017 1:44:41 PM

All are invited to participate in a day of communal fasting on June 19th.

Gather at 7:30PM for a shared Iftar (fast-breaking) potluck meal at:

The Southern Maryland Islamic Center in Prince Frederick.

Please bring a non-pork dish to share, a non-perishable item to donate, and a smile.

The Holy Month of Ramadan (May 26-June 24, 2017) is a time of spiritual reflection in the Muslim faith marked by fasting from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset. Each day, the fast is broken at sunset with a meal called Iftar.

June 19th is also "Juneteenth", or "Freedom Day," the celebration of the abolition from slavery.

The interfaith community will share prayers, words, and community meal. Bring the whole family, as children and youth will have activities.

Participating partners include: Calvert Interfaith Council, Southern Maryland Islamic Center, Daughers of Abraham, #OurCommonCalvert, Compassion for our Neigbors, Rumi Forum-Maryland, Congregation Beit Chaverim, and many churches in Southern Maryland.

Israel anyone?? A few weeks back two members has asked me about taking Beit Chaverim to Israel. With pleasure!! I will send out some details to consider soon, but if you have any interest or any particular questions, please send them to me soon. As you may imagine, a trip like this requires a lot of planning.

Hebrew anyone?? Almost every week, I include a website for free Hebrew lessons online. If there is an interest and if you are someone who needs more structure, I will be offering Hebrew lessons (online) after the High Holidays.

Speaking of the High Holidays...

I have already begun to plan!! This year I'd like to send out some materials in advance so we have more participation. Here is a YouTube video for the much beloved song Eli Eli sung at our Yom Kippur

Eli, Eli

Shelo yigamer le'olam:

Hachol vehayam

Rishrush shel hamayim

Berak hashamayim

Tefilat ha'adam.

My God, My God

I pray that these things never end:

The sand and the sea

The rush of the water

The crash of the heavens

The prayer of Man.

Don't forget to put our two summer Pool Parties on your calendar and 'like' us on FaceBook!

Hoping to see you June 19th!
