I, myself, have never seen the Jazz Singer with Neil Diamond. Here is the YouTube to his Kol Nidre: (cue up to 1:18)
Hope you find the time to listen to it before our own Kol Nidre Services on Tuesday evening September 18th. My Kol Nidre 'Sermon' will actually be about this prayer. I am hoping to have many of you there to join in the discussion.
I took my Shofar out of the curio over a month ago. I figured if I practiced everyday I would be in good shape by the time Rosh HaShannah came around. I somewhat convinced myself that I was actually improving, but finally admitted that I was not. I was beginning to panic. Then I decided to try another Shofar (unattractive and relegated to the back of the curio). A sound actually came out of it! The next day I went to the local Jewish supply store and bought a new one. It will take a while to actually get comfortable and sound 'just right' on it, but I do practice everyday. So I am praying for the best!
Shof'tim, Judges, Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9:
Laws regarding both sacred and secular legislation are addressed. The Israelites are told that in every dealing they should pursue justice in order to merit the land that God is giving them. The people are warned to avoid sorcery and witchcraft, the abhorrent practices of their idolatrous neighbors. God tells them that should an Israelite unintentionally kill another, he may take sanctuary in any of three designated cities of refuge. Laws to be followed during times of peace and times of war are set forth. (URJ website)
