Shalom Chaverim,
I hope all enjoyed celebrating the Jewish New Year with friends and family. I am so fortunate to have brought in the New Year with prayer, song, and our congregation. It was nice to see so many familiar faces!! And even a number of new ones!!
I realize that bad weather often 'dampens' peoples' enthusiasm to go outside for any reason. I am praying for good weather next week for Kol Nidre early Tuesday evening and our Yom Kippur Service on Wednesday morning. I might assume that many of us are watching the forecast for Hurricane Florence with concern for our fellow citizens in her path. Let us hope and pray that they all find safety waiting out the storm.
A huge Thank You to all that made our Rosh HaShannah such a success!! Our President, Rick, did so much of the 'heavy' lifting and Julie and her crew offered up a lovely holiday Kiddush!! A big Thank You to the Apple family for arranging the printing of our Yiskor Book that we will be using this week. Just about everyone who attended participated in the Service in one way or another and it was truly a communal event!!
I always get a bit weepy when we approach these last few portions of the Torah. Vayeilech is a very short and poignant reading, as Moses is preparing to pass his mantel on to Joshua and face his own mortality.
Vayeilech (Moses) Went out, Deuteronomy 31:1-30:
Moses prepares the people for his death and announces that Joshua will succeed him. Moses instruct the priests and the elders regarding the importance of reading the Torah! God informs Moses that upon his death, the people will commit idolatry and 'many evils and troubles shall befall them.' God tells Moses to teach the people a poem that will 'be My witness'
Yartzeits:
We do include the name of a loved in, both in our Torah and more and during our monthly Friday night Services. Please send us the names of those you would like to have remembered in this way.
Help grow our congregation!
