Shalom Chaverim!
A huge Thank You to the Ryons for hosting us last Shabbat. It was a lovely warm atmosphere and we had a nice turnout! We also thank Amanda Cole. Amanda had recently been to Israel on a Birthright program. She shared her impressions with us about her trip. Amanda also fielded questions and it was interesting to 'see' Israel through her eyes. Please put February 22nd on your calendar for our next Shabbat Service.
This week's Torah Portion is Mishpatim, Exodus 21:1-24:18:
Here we receive more laws! We learn how to treat servants, penalties for murder, kidnapping, assault, and theft. Also, civil laws as to how to redress damages, granting of loans, and rules governing the conduct of justice by courts of law. Also included are laws warning against mistreatment of foreigners; the observance of the seasonal festivals. The prohibition against eating meat with milk is also in this parasha. The word 'Mishpatim' means 'laws,' and there are 53 of them in this parasha! God warns the people against following pagan ways when they are in the Holy Land. Moses ascends Mount to receive the Torah. (summarized from Chabbad)
Yartzeits. On Friday February 22nd, we will be lighting a Candle in memory of those whose Yartzeits occur this month. Feel welcomed to come and say Kaddish for them.
DO THIS (please)!!!
Yay! Thank you to those who have left a review on our place page for Beit Chaverim. We now have five!! It is easy to do and makes us more visible to folks looking for a Jewish home in Calvert County. If you Google, Beit Chaverim, our 'place page' will come up on the right side of the screen. Leaving a review is easy!

Last week there was some enthusiasm about a trip to NYC to attend a Service at a Renewal Congregation and going to the Tenement museum or other Jewish museum. Thoughts?
All the best,
Rabbi Betsy
