After reading “Sharing Ones Skin”, it was talking about the four different capacities and how they operate all together. There is the physical self, emotional self, the thinking intellectual self and the spiritual self. Those four capacities that we have within ourselves all have equal importance of how we function and experience how/what we do. The physical self is about how to respect your body and how the world sees us. The emotional self is about everyone and how we are connected to each other by heart. Everyone is all one with the surroundings within us. The thinking intellectual self is about analytical thinking and how well your memory or “storage” is along with engaging when we take action.

In the first article, Native American Identity this talks about how native people are not using their language and/or practicing it. They are using the “white way”, which is sad because no one is marrying or creating more Kiowa people. This also talks about how Native people have threats being made by white people stereotypes, press, racial comments and many more other threats.

The article “A Brief History of Mental Illness and the U.S. Mental Health Care System” talks about how many different cultures view that mental illness is a type of religious punishment or a demonic possession. The only way that people would treat their mental health was if they stayed in a hospital with professional staff to help treat their mental health. In the fourth paragraph, it states that in the mid 1950’s, a push of deinstitutionalization and outpatient treatment began in many different countries. State hospitals were underfunded and understaffed which drew criticism followed by a high profile for poor conditions and human rights development. Many experts believe that by improving community based programs it could fulfill the needs for illnesses such as mental health.

The article “The Implications of Covid 19 for Mental Health and Substance Use '' has briefly informed me that during the pandemic 4 in 10 adults in the U.S. have had symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder. Many people have been dealing with their mental health before covid and have just been pushing towards substance abuse and alcohol consumption when covid first started to right now. Due to stress, worry , job loss, and closure of different schools and so forth has been labeled as a “pandemic consequence” which has set barriers for young adults, children, adults, elders, parents and much more age ranges. Children have been experiencing mental distress from school especially the younger ones because they don’t have a lot of human interaction. Child abuse, drug abuse and alcohol abuse may have increased throughout the pandemic.
In the podcast “ Millennial Versus, Mental Health during Covid”, I listened to a discussion that a lot of people don't really talk about and bring mental health up to the surface. Being socially distant has shown a lot of people that they have to be okay themselves and keep that mindset that we will be okay . To focus on the more important things , also recognizing what you need to make yourself better. It was hard trying to find a good and healthy way to cope to where you could gain and gradually see progress happening. Learn to appreciate the little things, yourself, give yourself and think on why we do certain things also learning new habits would be making yourself better.

In the article “Mental Health Disorders Related to Covid-19 Deaths” has mentioned that not only teenagers or young adults get disrupted and affected by mental health caused by covid and/or before that has been building up. There have been drug overdoses, suicides, dementia related, covid related along with other related things that are not good for a person's well being. In June the year 2020, there was at least one adverse or mental health condition that had rates from 3 in 4 that has been using or abusing either drugs and alcohol or doing some type of unhealthy coping skill. In the 7th Paragraph it has said , “Social distancing increases isolation and disrupts these practices, including a chance to say goodbye to the deceased.” In the 8th paragraph has talked about the health and essential workers who are providing for patients with covid-19.

In the article, “ The State of the Mental Health Crisis, Right Now” , has talked about how we were hoping to return to our old lives , and how the delta variant made us take extra precaution knowing that it is way easier to get but harder to get rid of . In the fourth paragraph , it states “13% of COVID-19 patients received a first-time diagnosis of a neurological or psychiatric condition within six months of their infection.” In the Second topic, it has talked about how we are all in this together, but these battles separate and inflame us which then leads to even more depression and anxiety. The 3rd topic, bottom paragraph, has expressed that people have found it comforting to share nostalgic thoughts with others during the pandemic. There were people from outpatient behavioral health clinics that now see 10% more referrals than they did before the pandemic.

In this podcast “Public Health On Call , 391. Underappreciated: The COVID-19 Pandemic’s Mental Health Effects on Non-Clinical Health Care Workers” has interviewed Yohannas Shole that works at the a hospital Hopkins which he said , “ There are people such as healthcare workers are honestly really really stressed from COVID.” The study that he has done is for more than the health care workers, technically front line workers is what he was most interested in. Frontline workers are not really receiving gratitude and being belated in the public eye. People who aren't clinical workers also experience exposure to COVID. Doctors and nurses were held as heroes but that being told they were a hero was nice but that wasn't what mattered. People are more afraid of getting COVID and spreading it to their family, and not making mistakes.

In the article ¨China long avoided discussing mental health; The pandemic changed that¨ has explained that during the pandemic when it first started in china, there were several healthcare workers/people that worked at the hospital became very depressed. It was just very overwhelming for many and some couldn't handle doing what they were doing before the pandemic. Many doctors left to better themselves and specifically Dr. Zhang fell into a depressive state and decided to leave Wuhan and move more to the southwest of Chengdu. Talking to colleagues and/or other people didn't quite help out Dr.Zhang. There were more than between 200-300 calls per day going to their hotline which was and is called ẃe-chat´which is a 24 hour hotline.
This is connected to my topic because this is very similar to what has happened in Zuni. There were a lot of people that were healthcare workers and/or nurses, doctors etc who have fallen into a depressive state because of the loss of lives that we have come upon. To this day the healthcare workers are still very stressed and overwhelmed from these 3 years that we have come in contact with covid. We are all trying to find ways to help ourselves in a healthy way , it may take awhile but it is worth the research and different experiences to better yourself as an individual.

In the video ¨The state of Mental Health in Africa¨ has talked about suicide among refugees in the covid 19 pandemic. The hunger almost made meta jonsen take his life because his life was already hard, no human interaction and leaving with his family behind. Male Ali is the psychologist that is helping the refugees that have PTSD that then made them move onto another stage of suicide. Investing in mental health would cost $16 trillion by 2030, mental health compromises your immune system. Be aware of duality, its stigma around the issues of mental health.
This video ties into my topic with the different suicide stages that a lot of people were/are going through in my community. That is not good because there has been a lot of suicides that has happened in the past 4 years. No human interaction has also messed with a lot of my people because we got so used to being around people, having to cut people off made us very isolated. Being around the ones we love and feel comfortable around is very important for our well being because we always have to have someone we can be comfortable with.

In the article ¨Mental health in India: A perspective¨,Virander S Chauhan has explained that there are not that many services out in India. There are 197.3 million people required to care for mental health conditions. There were 45.7 million people with depressive orders and 44.9 million people with anxiety. The lack of awareness can lead to overlooking, misjudging, or dismissing the signs that someone needs help. The union budget 2022-2023 took the consideration of mental health and announced the National Tele-Mental Health Programme and a free tele counseling service.
This article ties into my topic because everyone, no matter who it is, is going through something as well. There is a tele counseling service that has been offered which is good because it is hard to find those types of resources. There are many different types of telehealth related numbers all over the united states and they barely got the time to actually make one for India. There are many ways that we can help one another, it just takes the time and an ear to lend.
