K/1 SC celebrated the Lunar New Year by creating a paper sculpture using paper rolls and pipe cleaners. They depict movement by bending the pipe cleaner.

Detroit-based artist founded the Heilderberg project as a social action response to the Riots in 1967. He gathered the community to be involved in creating an art exhibition using found objects. Fourth graders acquired knowledge and discussed their motivations; they made their neighborhood sculpture homes using scraps and found objects.
In awareness of black history month, the life story of the folk artist Clementine Hunter inspired Third Graders. We discussed the historical context and treatment she went through for her passion for painting in her fifties.
She paints based on her memories; a series she continues is her paintings of zinnias.
