SEPTEMBER 2023
As a collaborative project to kick off the year on the theme of connection and reflecting what we have ( in the name of art and science theory !), we created the Bubble Cell Blanket.
Bubble Cell Blanket , 2023
P.S 008 Issac Varian 1st,3rd 4th and 5th Grades
Mixed media on paper (crayon, pencils and markers)
PS 008 students reflected on two creative works that emphasize how the universe is all connected even though it is extremely varied. The works included visual artist Marla Varner's blanket, Tiny Bubbles and Karen Krossing's novel One Tiny Bubble. Varner said she quilted and connected many different tiny bubbles into a blanket during the pandemic to occupy herself while she felt isolated from life while she was confined to her own small bubble. In Krossing's story of L.U.C.A (last common universal ancestor) the author explored the theory of a single cell leading to the presence of bacteria, animals, plants, etc. Each PS 008 student was challenged to create their own tiny bubble cell containing something personal which was united to produce this collaborative work of art.
