In celebration, 4th Graders and students in grades 5-301 are learning about the Iroquois Farming practice of the three sisters. The crops pumpkin, beans, and squash are planted together for companion planting. The students use their observational skills on reference images and implement various oil pastel techniques.
The art title is "Look and see ... friends do make a difference!"
In response to the contest guidelines on how friends can prevent anti-bullying, the 3rd and 4th grade art club brainstormed how they show respect. From there, students mentioned various locations and how they interact with others in their community, making differences beyond classroom walls, brightening people's days, and forming friendships. After all, friends make sure our community thrives with kindness.
Self-contained classes 3-217 and 4-307 discussed the origin of the Ancient Egyptian pharaoh's mummy curse. They first visualized the historical process of using linen to prepare the mummy before placing it in a sarcophagus. To each their own belief, as Carnarvon got closer and closer to uncovering King Tut's, he was faced with the curse!
Students used oil pastels to color in a radial direction, followed by gummed paper tape to mimic the linen wrapping. They also used printmaking stamping techniques on the bandages.
Class 3-217 and 4-307 then observed the distinctive features of a sarcophagus, such as the fake beard and gold accents to put their mummies in.
Students reflected on what they are thankful for and create works that has been submitted to the senator!
The link will be provided when the website is updated. The following are a few of the works submitted.
