March 2024
Here at P.S 008 we celebrated Women's History month and No Bullying "How to Say no."
Ramandan Kameen for those who celebrates it.
5th graders completed their cityscape based on the Dutch Artist Ton Schulten. They used a ruler to form a grid, precisely 1in X 1in . They designed the buildings by laying out geometric shapes. Later used tints, hues and shades to their lively buildings. This work has been submitted to the Bronx Art Festival. Hoping for good news!
On the premise of Compassion to go against Bullying, first graders had a read-aloud of the novel " I AM LOVE a book of compassion" By Susan Verde and art by Peter H Reynolds.
First graders discussed how and when they show love without stating the words " I love you". Students created statements what love is based on the read aloud.
They are currently completing their protrait holding their love note to show compassion to those who needs love.
The Moon and the Stars
4th graders are forming their own story about the moon and stars. They formed their composition to set the ground for the story, inspired from the illustrator, Roberto Weigand, using thumbnail ideas and T.A.G ( a system to give feedback to one another).
3rd graders are continuing their unit on movement. For women's history month, (previous learned about Kaori Sakamoto) I introduced Surya Bonaly, who is a retired olympic figure skater who made history in 1998 to do a back flip and land on one foot.
Students kept in mind of their observation of gesture poses onto their leg, knee and skate placement. Furthermore, 3rd graders are familarized with tying laces and use of hole punchers.
