First graders created a faux stained glass window based on Moe Brooker's 28 panel installation. He is inspired by his grandmother making quilts and the Black church.

She grew up in Harlem, NYC. Her deisre to vocalize her thoughts led to her painted story quilts, mixing fabric and painting. First graders based their project on " Sunflower Quilting Bee at Arles, 1991", which features black women activists doing a quilting bee.
