What can be done that brings both the world and our community stronger? One way is having a Pot Luck! Class 3-217 created a pot luck by re-using scrap paper and 3-D paper sculputing techniques to cook up their own dish to the pot luck.
A few of the techinques used are: crumple, fringe, tear, roll, fold and twist
The comparison of using paper scraps to food scraps should be made here! Instead of disgarding your leftovers, what will you bring to the table?
Here, I posted two videos. One explaining about the issue of food waste and another by of a possible solution.
In continuation of last month of compassion, April Is Poetry Month so below first graders formed two poems based on our discussion how and when we show love without saying the word love.
Love is ______
A hug
Family
A gift
For everyone
Sharing
Bringing joy
Nice to many
Holding hands
How you treat someone
Giving
Protecting
Beautiful .
Show love …
When someone helps you.
When someone feels sad.
When feeling lonely.
When someone gets hurt.
When someone shows you love and kindness.

April 14th is the Bengali New Year!
In recongition of this hoilday, 3rd graders practiced cultural senstivity when learning about Bangladesh's folk art and tradtions. Common traditions to celebrate is a parade held with representations of animals and clay dolls.
As well as rice with fried fish, pepper and a variety of bhorta ( mashed vegetable, meat or fish with onions, pepper, perhaps garlic and mustard oil).
Third graders used paper to form into 3-D owl mask by manipulating the paper to bend and keep the rounded shape. They also formed their own patterns using lines, and shapes.
To say Happy New year:
"শুভ নববর্ষ "
"Surbo Nobo Borsho"
Song on the New Year:
( I enjoy this version of the song and English Subtitles are shown)
