SEPTEMBER 2024
Here is a sneak peek on what students are learning about in art class!
Inspired by Thank You X.
A collaborative mural among 4th and 5th graders
Mixed media on paper (crayons, pencils, and markers)
I showcased Thank You X, an L. A based artist, what he depicts in his cube murals and his inspiration.
Students reflected on themselves on what is their story, or what inspires them. They are designing the facts visually through lines, shapes, and patterns. I was driving the point to use this chance to show what you want others to know. The goal is to increase self-esteem and bring their art out in public. With this collaborative mural, we are building community and I want to say thank you for the different people and celebrate their backgrounds.
Metepec Sun 3rd grade
Collage, oil pastels
3rd graders learned about the clay sun craft from Mexican artisans in Metepec. The folk art suns are symbols of good luck and prosperity hung on the doors of homes. Students observed and noticed the geometric and organic shapes seen throughout the intricate sun. At the moment, we are creating a collage of the Suns celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

Exploration of Lines to the Inca Roads we go!
collage, oil pastels
First graders are exploring various types of lines and how they can be found in everyday scenarios. To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the students will create map snippets of the Inca Empire's vast roads with prior knowledge of lines. That from one point of line can lead to another point.
