June 2024
Congratulations my artistic students! I hope for a great summer and show off your creative spark!
June is Pride Month! 🌈 At our school we have the P.R.I.D.E pledge every morning, so this project shows our dedication to respect differences and integrate art theory. First graders learned about the color wheel and how to interpret it to know what combinations of primary colors ( red, yellow, and blue) are needed to make the secondary colors ( orange, purple, and green). With this knowledge and experimenting with chalk pastels, they drew a Color Wheel lion!
Selected classes (1st and 4th-grade class) used air dry clay to form a "lion cookie". Students had to manage the smoothness of the clay ( no cracking), the thickness of the cookie, and adhering and indenting details for the lion's face.
Students were resourceful in using everyday objects (dried-out markers and pencils) and repurposed them for a clay medium.
After seeing how the clay dries down, they painted using tempera paint.
3rd grade art club created their kites! They built a kite backbone using cardboard and tying of yarn to provide stability. To celebrate the end of the school year, the students ran, twirl. dance and struck a pose!
As a continuation from their identity map, 5th grade students created their background setting and outfits all using paper and magazine scraps. They had their photo taken with the prompt of how to show others what they enjoy doing.
