I believe it holds many subjects. It has a person that is all tired eyes and protruding bones, but smiling. They are the centerpiece, but offset. The setting kind of represents their mind because of the symbols all around and bright colors. But there is also the impending darkness on the far left side. I used the provided paper and ink blot, a pencil, black pen, white pen, and colored pencils. I began with a sketch of the person, then drew over them with a black pen, but after that I went with whatever popped into my mind, hence the rainbow background and symbols. I went off of instinct. I started with no plan or idea what it was going to be. After I colored the person, I colored the background with the rainbow and the black in the corner. I then decided to have more than that, so I added symbols with contrasting colors so they would really pop.
Originally they weren’t as bony, but before we turned them in, I added sharper edges on their skin, showing that there was suffering there.
They are tired and thinking about everything around them, almost as if they’re having an ongoing existential crisis. The darkness to the left of the paper represents the impending dark thoughts like sadness and regret. The ink is a space where their heart goes, but instead it’s just blackness. But if you look closely, I used a white pen to draw in a flower to represent new beginnings. The stitches show how broken things can be fixed, even though it may take a lot of work and time. I’m always struggling with over thinking and self-doubt, but lately I’ve been pushing myself to think positively rather than negatively. I’m trying to put my negative times behind me and have a new beginning, much like the person on the paper. I want to work on body proportions, because in this drawing you can see the difference in size with the arms and the body all in all looks strange. I also want to work towards finding an art style for myself that I can use to truly represent me.
