This piece was inspired by Ted Vogel's many sculptures of birds, specifically birds like ravens and crows, as well as his tendency to have his sculptures eerie with rough forms.
I tried to follow that by adding rough texture to the rock underneath the bird, as well as a darker undertone with the skull in the cave. I chose to add a skull because not only did it add a level of creepiness, but it also added contrast to draw the viewer's eyes all around the sculpture.
This sculpture is my favorite one I've done in this class so far. I love how the bird turned out as well as the skull. I was worried about the skull because I kept getting the glaze from the cave on the skull, but luckily it ended up looking great.
