Written Reflection-
Starting out, I thought Foundations of Art was going to be the worst class of Freshman year to be honest, however throughout the year I found myself looking forward to it. Art was the only class I could really relax and just work on whatever project we were on. I'm not gonna lie though, there were several projects we did that I was not a fan of but the atmosphere, teacher, and class itself made the overall experience much better than I originally thought it would be.
Seeing the difference in a drawing from the beginning of the year to now, is pretty cool. I am proud not of any one or 2 projects, I am proud of how much I have improved after trying all sorts of different kinds of art and learning a lot about different techniques, tools and materials. Hopefully I can carry out into other parts of my life. We all saw a large variety of methods of art. From the kinds I didn't like such as the linoleum prints to ones I did like the surrealism painting/collage. I found that I enjoy and had the most success with painting unlike things that required measurements or to me were just not fun. I met the standards throughout this year by keeping up with my digital portfolios, turning in most of my work on time, and asking when I didn't know what I should improve.
When we began, I will admit I got pretty frustrated with myself, even later in the year when we were learning new things and I did it wrong. The first example of this is the time capsules, this was when we were learning the basics of how to draw, how to center things, etc. and I didn't know much about this subject. Taking a step back, I am noticing that with every project, whether it's something I'm used to or not, there is always something I wish I could have done differently, or something I could fix. This is seen in the artist statements when one of the questions asked says IF you could change one thing what would it be. I noticed there was always something, and there almost always is for other artists too, even famous ones.
Art I have realized relates to my life because it's the only place I have a real creative outlet to think of what should I do next? I also notice that though it's something I don't feel overwhelmed about everyday, I still think a lot and I'm still focused. I have found not to judge a class before you have fully experienced it, to keep an open mind with everything I do not just in school, but in life.
